New Developments from Larian Studios
Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, have unveiled their future development strategy, which includes working on two new games. These projects were initiated following the acclaim received for their latest role-playing game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
In their latest update on the Steam platform, Larian presented improvements coming in the seventh patch of Baldur’s Gate 3, including a more detailed conclusion to the game's dark storyline. The studio also mentioned that they are moving away from creating large expansions or DLCs for this game and will not be developing a fourth installment in the Wizards of the Coast franchise. Instead, they are focusing on two original game projects currently in development.
"Our ambition is for these projects to become our best work," said CEO Sven Vincke in an interview. "I eagerly await the day when I can show everyone our main visuals. The excitement is palpable, and I can’t wait for everything to be ready for unveiling."
There is a possibility that one of these upcoming games could be a new installment in the Divinity series, following the highly acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin II, which was released in 2017. Despite rumors, Vincke commented to IGN that their next project will be unexpected yet familiar, possibly presenting a new twist within the same atmosphere.
Larian has expressed their intention to remain independent from the Baldur’s Gate series despite its success. Given this direction, their next games are expected to be released faster than previous projects, as the team plans to use the Early Access format for early testing.
