With the latest update on June 27, 2024, Palworld server hosting has ushered in a new era of gameplay with the Sakurajima expansion. This update introduces not only fresh exploration areas and new Pals but also a powerful faction leader. Enhancements have also been made to the gameplay experience, including an increase in the maximum number of accessory slots from two to four, although these must be unlocked first.
After installing the update, you’ll notice two new accessory slots on the inventory screen that will be unavailable initially. Hovering over them will reveal that a special item is required to unlock these slots. Additionally, you’ll need to collect a new in-game currency—Dog Coins—and find an NPC merchant who accepts these coins.
How to Find Dog Coins, the New Currency in Palworld
While gold remains the primary currency in Palworld, Dog Coins open up new opportunities. You can find these coins outside the Sakurajima area, and encounters with them can happen fairly quickly. To unlock an additional slot, you’ll need to collect at least 100 Dog Coins.
The most common source of Dog Coins is piles of scrap metal, which look like accumulations of wood and metal and can be found all over the map. Interacting with these piles may yield useful items. Although obtaining Dog Coins from each pile isn’t guaranteed, it’s worth checking them as they might contain other valuable items. Most of my Dog Coins were acquired from these sources.
Another effective method is hunting Mimogs, hybrids of dogs and piggy banks. By hunting or defeating Mimogs, you can earn Dog Coins. I recommend doing this promptly, as Mimogs are very quick and may escape after your attempt to attack or capture them.
It’s important to note that killing Pals will not yield Dog Coins. Additionally, the new system for dismantling Pals provides resources but does not grant Dog Coins, aside from those found in scrap piles and from Mimogs.
Finding the Medal Merchant is the easiest part of the process. These new NPCs can be found in ruins and churches. Simply use fast travel to several of these locations, and you’re likely to encounter one. These distinguished characters are easily recognized by their shiny golden attire and broad smiles. They only accept Dog Coins and sell unique items that make all the expenditure worthwhile.
To increase your inventory, you’ll need two items: the Mysterious Accessory Box and the Box of Mysterious Accessories. Each of these items adds one slot, but the first costs only 100 Dog Coins, while the second costs a hefty 1,000 Dog Coins. Don’t worry if it takes some time to gather the necessary coins.
Expanding the number of accessory slots is a crucial aspect of playing Palworld after the Sakurajima update. These additional slots can significantly enhance your survival chances during encounters with new bosses or under various conditions.
