While playing the indie Metroidvania game Animal Well, you’ve likely encountered the Kangaroo. This creature can be intimidating and cause damage upon contact unless you retreat. However, retreat isn’t the only option. The Kangaroo hides a secret worth discovering. Let's explore where to find this elusive marsupial and what to do when you encounter it.

Finding the Kangaroo

On the map of Animal Well, there are five locations where the Kangaroo can appear. It will move to another spot as soon as you see it, so you’ll need to check all the locations. Throwing a Firecracker at the Kangaroo will make it flee, leaving behind a K Shard. Three K Shards will automatically combine into a K Medal, which can be placed in the Round Indentation in the upper-left part of the map (near the room where the giant bat appears after placing the candle).

How to Find the Kangaroo Rooms

You can determine the locations where the Kangaroo appears using a specific item that you may have missed until the end of the game (this is not the Top). If you’re interested, read on.

Required Item: UV Stick

The necessary item is the UV Stick, which you can obtain after exploring the area that opens after placing the E Medal in the Round Indentation in the lower-left quadrant of the map (behind the room where you received the Flame B after the seahorse boss fight, there is a hidden room in the upper-right part of the screen above the fish head). The UV Stick reveals hidden images and messages that are usually invisible and are essential for uncovering various codes in Animal Well.

How to Activate Fast Travel in Animal Well

The Kangaroo can appear in any room where the UV Stick reveals its image. One location is near the upper-left end of the map, another near the lower-right, and three more near the center of the map. If you want to explore and find these points on your own, you now have all the necessary information. Remember where you’ve already seen the Kangaroo!

Kangaroo Locations

Location 1: Center of the Map

One of the most convenient places for the Kangaroo to appear is one screen to the right of where the four flames are placed in the center of the map. You can recognize this area by the duck. This is an easy-to-remember place, and you’ve likely already seen the Kangaroo here.

Location 2: Under the Egg Room

After checking the first location, go left to the corridor under the Egg Room. This spot is right in the corridor.

Location 3: Starting Area

This point is one screen to the right of the first phone (save point) you find in the game. After checking the first two spots, go down the ladder from the central save point, move left one screen, go down the next ladder, and move left again.

Alternatively, you can use the lower-left entrance in the fast travel hub to reach this spot

Location 4: Dog Shrine with Grass Bowl

From the fast travel hub, enter the bear’s mouth in the upper-left part of the screen. Once you exit, fall into the pit in front of you, then move right one screen.

Location 5: Temple Entrance

The last Kangaroo location is easily accessible. From the fast travel hub, use the lower-right entrance and move right one screen.

Using the K Medal

Once you’ve collected three K Shards and formed the K Medal, place it in the Round Indentation in the upper-left part of the map. This will help you progress further in the game and uncover more secrets.
