The skies of Minecraft server hosting are about to get a whole lot busier. With the highly anticipated 1.21.6 “Chase the Skies” update launching on June 17, 2025, players across Java and Bedrock editions will unlock a fresh layer of gameplay that reimagines travel, visual immersion, and multiplayer interaction.

Happy Ghast in Minecraft: How to Get and Use

One of the most whimsical and game-changing additions in this update is the Happy Ghast. More than just a flying mob, this creature serves as an aerial mount capable of carrying up to four players—or even tethered boats and animals. It’s essentially Minecraft’s answer to a flying caravan.

To obtain your own Happy Ghast, players must:

  • Find or craft a Dried Ghast (crafted from 8 Ghast Tears and Soul Sand or found near Nether fossils).

  • Rehydrate it in water to spawn a Ghastling.

  • Feed the Ghastling snowballs until it matures into a rideable Happy Ghast.

TIP

This floating companion isn’t just cosmetic, it’s a genuine utility for exploration, group transport, and creative aerial builds.

New Vibrant Visuals View

"Chase the Skies" is also the first time Bedrock players can now use Vibrant Visuals, a built-in graphics upgrade feature that adds reflecting water, dynamic lighting, shadows, and better flora without needing to use additional shaders or plugins. This feature is only available in the Bedrock Edition at first, but a Java version is coming out later this year.

The upgraded visuals make gameplay more immersive, both in solo adventures and when sharing builds or Realms with others.

Player Locator Bar: Track Friends Easily

Keeping track of friends (or enemies) is easier than ever. The new Player Locator Bar, now part of the standard HUD, displays nearby players’ icons and directional cues. It also reflects verticality—meaning players flying above or mining below can still be tracked, unless crouching to hide from view.

This feature transforms PvP ambushes, group survival coordination, and even cooperative Redstone builds.

New Crafting and Leash Changes in 1.21.6

This update finally addresses some of Minecraft’s most persistent annoyances:

  • Saddles are now craftable (3 Leather + 1 Iron Ingot).

  • Leads require only string—no more slimeball farming.

  • Players can now leash almost any mob to almost anything, including boats and mounts.

  • Shears can remove individual leads without breaking entire clusters.

These changes offer smoother transportation and mount management, especially in multiplayer or roleplay servers.

TIP

New Minecraft Music Tracks by Amos Roddy

Amos Roddy wrote a new soundtrack for your high-altitude journeys. It includes ambient tracks like Lilypad, Fireflies, Broken Clocks, and Tears. These pieces are meant to enhance the calm but vast feeling of the skies above Minecraft's pixelated universe.

Additionally, a new music disc can now drop from hostile ghasts, adding to your collection of in-game tunes.

Extra Features and Fixes in 1.21.6

  • Lodestones now require fewer resources, making long-distance navigation more accessible.

  • Endermen behavior has been refined for consistency, particularly during rain.

  • Numerous performance and bug fixes round out the update, further stabilizing both creative and survival gameplay.
