    General information

Trident is a unique weapon added to Minecraft in version 1.13 alongside with the other content from the Aquatic Update. This weapon is often overlooked and forgotten by many players, all due to the fact that you cannot craft it, only get it as loot.

However, in the right hands trident can be a deadly weapon helping you strike your enemies from a far or improve your maneuverability. So let’s break down how to get a trident, and what are the best enchantments for it.

How to obtain a trident in Minecraft?

As it was mentioned before, trident can only be obtained as a loot, specifically from a mod added in the same update – Drowned. Drowned is basically another type of zombie, defeating it should be fairly easy. However, to get trident, defeating just any drowned wouldn’t work – you need to find and defeat drowned with a trident. Defeating it will be a little harder compared to normal drowning, as it can throw a trident at you from a distance, though it is still a fairly easy objective.

Here’s the table with chances of drowned spawning with a  trident, and a chance of the said trident to be dropped upon its user death:

Game edition Chance of drowned spawning with a trident Chance of trident dropping from the slain drowned
    Java Edition 6.25% 8.5%
    Bedrock Edition 15% 25%

What are the best enchantments for trident in Minecraft?

Now that you have a trident, you will need to enchant it. Of course you could use it even without enchantments, though it will have way less damage and lack some cool features.

When it comes to enchantments for trident, there are a couple enchantments that are incompatible with one another. The game will simply not let you have  those enchantments together on one trident, so consider these 2 ways you can enchant your trident:

    1)Combat based:

This option fits the best for players who wish to use trident for combat. To achieve this, you will need the following enchantments:

    • Impaling V: increases damage of the trident by 2.5 to aquatic mobs per one level of enchantment. For Bedrock Edition, damage multiplier works on any mob that is considered wet(they are in the water, or under the rain).
    • Loyalty III: automatically returns trident to players inventory after being thrown. The speed at which the trident is being returned increases with each level of enchantment.
    • Channeling: summons a lightning strike upon successfully hitting a mob when throwing a trident(only works during the storm and if nothing is blocking the lightning's way to the mob).
    • Unbreaking III: creates a chance that items durability will not go down after using it, averaging a 100% increase in item’s lifespan per enchantment level.
    • Mending: an item can be repaired with XP orbs. For this to work an item must be selected in the player's main hand.

    2)Movement based:

This option on the other hand is more suitable for players who wish to use trident as means of improving player’s mobility and movement. For that you will need the following enchantments:

    • Riptide III: when players throw a trident with this enchantment, it's being launched alongside it, allowing them to improve their movement. This works in a water environment or during the rain. The distance the players gets launched in the water is calculated as 4 blocks * enchantment level + 3 blocks. Launch distance in the rain on the other hand is calculated as 6 blocks * enchantment level + 3 blocks.
    • Impaling V: increases damage of the trident by 2.5 to aquatic mobs per one level of enchantment. For Bedrock Edition, damage multiplier works on any mob that is considered wet(they are in the water, or under the rain).
    • Unbreaking III: creates a chance that items durability will not go down after using it, averaging a 100% increase in item’s lifespan per enchantment level.
    • Mending: an item can be repaired with XP orbs. For this to work an item must be selected in the player's main hand.

Hi, I'm Fawn. I started out just messing around in Minecraft with friends, then one thing led to another, and suddenly I was streaming, building worlds, and losing sleep over redstone logic. I like games that make you feel something—whether it’s a good RPG story like Nier or Kingdom Hearts, or the collective suffering of solo-queuing in Valorant. Mostly, I just create, experiment, and have fun with it :D
