    Godlike host vs Aternos

Today we are glad to announce that we are introducing a new free plan for our US clients (for now) that will be completely free. The all new free servers will run on Ryzen 9 9950x3D with 2GB of RAM, hosted in top-notch data centers to ensure reliable connectivity and keep players connected online with minimal waiting and less time spent on setup.

Make your own Minecraft server Minecraft Server Hosting

    GodlikeHost vs Aternos

You can sign up for an account with just one click, making it easy to launch and manage your own Minecraft server. Our service is fully DDoS protected, with enterprise-grade DDoS protection included as a standard feature to maintain server uptime and security. Automatic backups and backup storage are included, so your Minecraft worlds and data are always safe and can be restored if needed.

    Note

You can upgrade your server resources (RAM, CPU, storage) at any time for improved performance, and enjoy unlimited slots and unlimited plugins/mods for as many players online and as much customization as you want.

Custom domains and domain support are available, making it easy to connect a unique domain or IP for branding and easier access. The service supports a variety of server software (Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Forge, Fabric, Bukkit), and mods and plugins can be installed with a simple download and one-click setup. The control panel allows you to fully customize your own experience, including server settings, mods, and plugins.

Our servers are designed for both Java and Bedrock players, and Bedrock players can join Java servers using tools like Geyser, enabling cross-platform play. Community features include a community lobby (like Minehut) and the ability to easily share your server IP or domain with friends so they can connect and play together. There are no hidden costs, no need to pay or subscribe, and the free plan is completely free with no time limits, making it a cost-efficient service.

Players can easily share their server address (IP or domain) with friends, allowing them to connect directly without complicated processes. If you ever need more advanced features, you have the flexibility to upgrade to premium plans or add a subscription.

And today we will compare our free hosting with the infamous Aternos.

    What tests will we run?

We will be using Fabric Minecraft 1.21.11. In addition to Fabric, many Minecraft server hosts support a wide range of server software options, including Vanilla, Paper, Spigot, Forge, Fabric, and Bukkit, allowing for different gameplay experiences. Mods and plugins can be easily installed to customize the server, and server settings are fully customizable to suit your preferences. Automatic backups are also available to protect your data and restore Minecraft worlds if needed.

Why Fabric, you might ask? We will install 2 plugins on those servers - Spark and Chunky. Spark will be used for its profiler - there we could see how the servers perform. Chunky would be used to run a chunkloader to see how the server performs during high loads.

We will be running 2 tests on those servers.

    • I will fly 3000 blocks on an elytra to see how it would be for players trying to explore
    • After that I will start Chunky to generate chunks in 1000 chunk radius ( 16129 chunks total)

To keep everything fair we ran this tests on a same seed, and if you want to do the same tests yourself: Here is the seed

And if you are just looking for a seed to play with your friends - you can alway visit our Minecraft seeds page where we add new and exciting seeds everyday!

    Lets start with Aternos

    Aternos Spark Chunky Test

Here we can see the Spark UI, I will walk you through what we are going to be looking at.

We can see here that Aternos is using EPYC 7401P CPU - which is a bit old, but nonetheless it is still for free ( if not to count a lot of ads on their website).

    Lets go into the details

    Elytra test Aternos

    Aternos Spark Chunky Test TPS

Here we can see a fragment where I was flying for 3000 blocks with an elytra. We can clearly see a lot of lag - TPS drops to 15 and remains unstable through the whole test.

This is common for free Minecraft server hosting like Aternos, which typically offers limited RAM (usually between 1 to 4 GB) and experiences CPU throttling. These limitations can cause lag for players online, especially during peak hours or when multiple players are connected. Free hosts may also have lag spikes and sometimes shut down after periods of inactivity to conserve resources.

    Note

If you want to see how does it look ingame - you can watch our youtube video.

    Chunky test Aternos

During this test I ran a chunkloader with a radius of 1000 chunks ( 16129 chunks total). Now lets see how did Aternos free server perform:

    Chunks loaded Time Average cps
    16129 32:28 8.2

It's important to note that limited storage and the absence of automatic backups on free Minecraft server hosting can put your data at risk. Without reliable backups, restoring your world after data loss becomes difficult, and storage limitations may affect server responsiveness, especially for players connected during high-load scenarios.

    Now lets go over Godlike.host

    Godlike Spark Chunky Test

Here we can see that Godlike free hosting uses top of the line Ryzen 9 9950x3d. Lets go over the details.

    Elytra test Godlike.Host

    Godlike Spark Chunky Test TPS

Here we can see the fragment of 3000 block on Elytra test. As you can see the TPS is stable during the whole process, it didn’t even go under 20. MSPT didn’t go over 10 which is a great result and means that the server was running flawlessly throughout the whole test. This high-performance hardware ensures that many players online can enjoy smooth gameplay, keeps all players connected with minimal lag.

    Chunky test Godlike.Host

During this test I ran a chunkloader with a radius of 1000 chunks (16129 chunks total).

Now how Godlike.Host free server perform

    Chunks loaded Time Average cps
    16129 6:28 41.5

    Comparing the results

    Name TPS MSPT CPS
    Godlike Host Stable 20 <10 41.5
Aternos Unstable with an average of 16 and dropping to 13 Unstable 8.2

Here we can see that the Godlike Host server is approximately 406% more powerful in raw chunk generation speed than the Aternos server.

TPS: Godlike is maintaining a perfect, stable 20 TPS, while Aternos is bottlenecking with an unstable average of 16 (meaning the game is running roughly 20% to 25% slower than it should).

MSPT: Godlike is processing ticks in under 10 milliseconds - well below the 50ms threshold where lag begins - indicating the hardware has massive overhead left, whereas the Aternos server is failing to keep up with the basic tick loop.

And if you want to test the server yourself

You can always get yourself one in a few clicks completely for FREE!
