Partner Skill rework

Pocketpair, the developers behind the Palworld, has reworked Partner Skills of over 200 Pals. The main rework, for a better balance and to encourage creative and diverse team building, Partner Skills effects no longer stack if you have multiple of the exact same Pals in your party. So the old meta builds like “5x Gobfin” will no longer be as effective as before.

Here are a few examples of new Partner Skills in the latest update 1.0:

  • Xenolord: While in the party, damage done by Partner Skills of weapon-wielding Pals increases by 20%.
  • Kitsun: Riding it now grants you and your party 15% Ice damage reduction and immunity to Frozen.
  • Orserk: Hitting an enemy with a bullet increases Orserk's Attack and Defense by 1% for 5 seconds, stacking up to 30 times.

There are many more new ones, for more detailed information check out official Steam Update Changelog from Pocketpair.

Gameplay, combat and movement overhauls

Another big part of the update 1.0 is player related gameplay overhauls such as combat, movement etc. Let’s take a look at them in more detail:

  • Level cap: Player’s level cap has been raised from 65 to 80, bringing lots of new technologies from the newly added Ancient Civilization to unlock.
  • Dashing and dodging: Standard dodge roll performed while attacking or aiming was replaced by Dash. Now, players can maintain their aim, attack while dashing and close the distance to the enemy way quicker!
  • Uninterrupted reloads: Weapon reload will no longer be canceled by dodging or dashing, allowing the player to stay highly mobile during boss fights.
  • Wing pack: A new item has been added to the game that allows players to glide and engage in aerial combat without a flying mount. This allows to save the precious Pal team slots for other members, while not sacrificing the ability to fly.
  • Traversal quality of life: An Auto-run button has been added to the game. Also players can now select fast travel points other than their base. Additionally, players can choose starting location immediately after respawning.

Story and progression

Story got a major rework and overhaul in the latest update 1.0. Story’s flow has been reorganized for a more natural progression: exploring Palpagos, challenging Tower Bosses, reaching Sunreach and ultimately, arriving to The World Tree.

To freshen up the lore, Pocketpair added new continuous story-driven side quests, new NPCs and lore pieces in form of scattered Journals.

Massive reward adjustments has been made. Due to that rework, main and sub-mission progress has been reset (though some tutorial / tower quests will auto-complete based on your prior boss defeats).

I like games that make you feel something—whether it’s a good RPG story like Nier or Kingdom Hearts, or the collective suffering of solo-queuing in Valorant. Mostly, I just create, experiment, and have fun with it :D
