• What exactly is a Minecraft seed?

  A seed is a specific string of numbers or letters that acts as the starting input for Minecraft’s world generation algorithm. When you enter a seed, the game uses that exact value to determine the placement of every mountain, river, cave, and biome in your world.

• How does the game use the seed to create a world?

  Minecraft uses a mathematical process called a pseudo-random number generator to build the environment. Because the math is deterministic, using the same seed value will always produce the same sequence of "random" numbers, resulting in the exact same world layout every time.

• Why does a seed look different on different versions of the game?

• What are "broken" or "glitched" seeds?
