In ARK Survival Evolved servers, polymer plays a big role in helping you survive and thrive. It's needed for making powerful weapons, top-level gear, and important structures you’ll use later in the game. Knowing how to get both regular and organic polymer easily can really speed up your progress and give you an edge.
To begin crafting polymer in ARK, you need to reach level 48 and unlock the appropriate engram. The crafting process requires a Fabricator and two core ingredients:
2 Obsidian
2 Cementing Paste
Obsidian is typically found in caves and high mountain regions, especially near volcanoes. Cementing Paste can be crafted from Chitin or Keratin combined with Stone using a Mortar and Pestle. Alternatively, it can be scavenged from beaver dams.
Although some crafting stations allow polymer production, the Fabricator remains the most efficient choice in terms of speed and material use.
Obtaining Organic Polymer
Organic Polymer ARK acts as a natural substitute for standard polymer in most recipes, though it comes with limitations. It has a short spoil timer and lower stack size, which makes it harder to store in large quantities. However, it’s easier to obtain in large batches through farming.
Primary Organic Polymer Sources:
Kairuku (Penguins): Found in cold biomes. Using a club or chainsaw increases yield.
Mantis: Found in deserts. Harvesting with a chainsaw yields the most polymer.
Hesperornis & Karkinos: These creatures also drop decent amounts of organic polymer.
Bee Hives: Can be harvested for small amounts of polymer.
You can also tame certain creatures like Achatina, which passively generate organic polymer over time, though this method is much slower.
Tips for Efficient Polymer Farming
Use the Right Tools: Harvest with chainsaws or clubs for maximum organic polymer yield.
Tame the Right Creatures: Dire Bears and Pelagornis are especially efficient harvesters.
Weight Reduction: Use Argentavis to transport polymer, thanks to its weight reduction bonus.
Storage Management: Due to its spoilage rate, consider crafting soap from organic polymer to preserve it longer.
What You Can Craft with Polymer
Polymer opens the door to many essential and advanced items, including:
To get standard polymer in ARK: Survival Evolved, craft it in a Fabricator using obsidian and cementing paste. For organic polymer, harvest it from creatures like Kairuku, Mantis, or Hesperornis using tools like a club or chainsaw for the best yield.
